In 2012 we're going to find out just how stupid the American electorate is
If the American voter has any smarts at all, republicans will be turned out in droves, from statehouses to Washington D.C. Republicans have said fuck you to the middle class, the poor, workers, teachers, etc in the most brutal and brutish manner. It's not been disguised at all.

I don't have much faith in the American electorate, so we'll see if they get that republicans will, well, kill them.

15. I agree with you...
Which is why it would be nice if given how much of a no brainer it is that the vast majority of people wanted to save medicare and social security, and are in favor of collective bargaining and civil rights, if one of the parties had leadership that would come out unequivically and forcefully on the side of those things.

Maybe in the next year or so we'll get that. But right now all I see is one side that wants to destroy those things, and another side who is content to largely sit back and let the other side implode and deal with the anger from that rather than actually standing up forcefully FOR those things. And maybe also sort of agree that "we must do something but just not what THEY want to do."

You're right....no choice. Plan on voting so that we at least stand an outside chance of saving and preserving those things and not allowing them to be gutted by evil Repubs.

But I'm sorry the contrast and choice is far from stark. You and I know what the choice is and the majority of political junkies on DU know it. But a lot of low information voters don't. They see 1 side that wants to do away with those things, and another side that says "Well, maybe we kind of don't COMPLETELY need to do away with those things....but we all need to sacrifice so lets agree to do SOMETHING."

So yeah, unfortunately that is going to get my vote, but if you think it's going to be enough to convince enough people, then I'm not so confident.

but the republicans never listen to me, and keep running for office. The day republicans stop this insanity, I will move on to other things.

10. And if we find that they are smart ...
We'll get to find out if the Democrats are as stupid and ineffective as the last time around.

(Just wait till the Republicans win all three branches of government. They certainly won't sit around for years arguing until it's too late. Things will change with lightning speed. )

16. Do we get the government we deserve?
Or does stupid call the shots?

If they want to destroy Medicare and Medicaid, that is their choice. If they want to sell their house to pay for their Mom's medical bills, that is their choice. If they believe that the rapture is coming because some old flim-flam preacher said so, contrary to what even Jesus said, then how do you persuade them to vote wisely?

Stupid cannot be fixed and we will all pay the price.

22. actually many deserve better
a great number of us would like to pay taxes and get public services, like healthcare for all. But this is a "freedom" others will not allow us to have. We apparently cannot ever freely choose to have government involved, because having government involved is defined as "not freedom", even if we freely vote for it. A lovely conumdrum created by definition.

25. So it took 18 posts for this to even be mentioned.......
ALL the machines are crooked. They just sometimes give correct results because, in the past, it would have been WAY too obvious for them NOT to give correct results.

We'll actually see in '12 just how much they care about being obvious. I personally think that they don't CARE anymore, so they'll be rigging elections all across the country.

I have NO hope for within the system reform.

19. A Total Disconnect...
Unfortunately there is a portion...35% of the population that lives in a parallel universe where right wing talking points reign supreme. They ignore their blatant hypocrisy cause the ends justifies the means. Thus a paper bag with an (R) on the ballot will still get that vote. The rest are independents and Democrats who will be the key to the election. Democrats need to show and show big next year while Independents once again see the stupidity, arrogance and destructiveness of giving the rushpublicans any more power and turn red districts purple and purple ones blue. Thanks to the Ryan scam, Democrats have a big opportunity...thanks to all the union busting Democrats have big opportunities...thanks to the attacks on woman's reproductive rights the Democrats have big opportunities. Now will they once again fail to take advantage? Stay tuned...

20. kudos
I totally agree. I just do not understand how they continue to shove "shit" in the faces of average Americans and those very average Americans don't get it. It is a case of complete ignorance ... of course the educational suppression the republicans have pressed seems to be working these days, eh?
