John McCain: Sarah Palin Can Beat Obama In 2012

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/05/29/john-mccain-sarah-palin-c_n_868562.html

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) suggested on Sunday morning that former Alaska governor Sarah Palin could defeat President Barack Obama should she run as the Republican presidential nominee in 2012.

"Of course she can," said the Arizona senator of Palin's chances in the hypothetical match-up on "Fox News Sunday." He added, however, that he doesn't know whether his 2008 running mate will ultimately decide to make a run for the White House.

The remarks from McCain come the same day that Palin is kicking off a bus tour of the eastern United States. The move, along with news of a documentary premiering next month on the rise of the big name Republican and her tenure as governor have stirred speculation that Palin could jump into the GOP primary race.

In discussing a potential Palin 2012 campaign, McCain said, “I’ve never seen anyone as mercilessly and relentlessly attacked as I have seen Sarah Palin in the last couple of years.” According to The Hill, he added, “But she also inspires great passion, particularly among the Republican faithful."

2. So McCain is saying the people think Palin is a better choice
than he was............. Just think if Palin would have been on the top of the ticket last time we would be looking right now at the Palin/McCain presidency

13. I think you're right about that.
I'm betting that he holds her responsible for his loss in 2008 (skipping over the fact that it was his call to put her on the ticket in the 1st place). Nothing would give him more pleasure than to see her exposed and destroyed in the 2012 presidential election.

16. Hell yes...she made him lose to "That One."
He's left a well-documented trail of anger since that loss, and I am willing to bet that his personal accountability level is somewhere around 0%.

8. McCain seeks payback for Palin's 2008 kiss of death to his campaign
Edited on Sun May-29-11 11:10 AM by Zambero
Republicans are going to lose in 2012 anyway, from the top of the ticket down. So from McCain's perspective, why not have Sarah as the GOP standard bearer? She can go rogue to her heart's content, calling the shots every step of the way. And when the crushing defeat happens in November, he can sit back and gloat a bit as Palin heads off into the sunset for the very last time.

12. How will she compare to other Republican candidates to the voters?
I hope that they don't consider other Republicans as more moderate and a better choice.

15. For the GOP, that's a double-edged sword
Edited on Sun May-29-11 11:47 AM by Zambero
The more mainstream candidates such as Romney and Pawlenty are much less acceptable to the Tea Party element. They might look better to some independent voters, but would also be more likely to provoke a revolt from the right, in the form of a third-party candidate. I can envision someone like Ron Paul polling 8% or 10% in the general election, enough to siphon millions of Republican votes and ensure President Obama a larger victory margin.
