"I love that smell of the emissions," she said.
Yeah, Palin really said that...

"I love that smell of the emissions," she said, donning sunglasses and a Harley Davidson skullcap-style, black helmet.

*snip*

Asked by a man in the crowd if she was running, Palin responded, "Don't know yet."

But not all veterans at Sunday's staging were thrilled by Palin's presence, less so because of the politician she is, but because the event is meant to honor service members missing and killed in action.

"If she's here to support us and our troops, past, present and the ones that's name's written on the wall, that's fine. This is not a political event other than to call attention to the accounting of our MIAs, KIAs that have not been brought home," said one veteran.

Her affinity for CO might come in handy in explaining her brain-damage during the 2012 election cycle, whether she is running or endorsing.

Hey Scarah, then why not stick your powdered nose into the end of one of those running cycles' hot exhaust pipes, and snort up some much more concentrated fumes?

14. i am a tree hugger who likes the distinct sound and smell of a
customized v twin engine on a harley running straight pipes with no mufflers or emissions controls. i grew up the son of a biker and toured many many states in the usa on the back of my dads bike and went out scrambling pretty much every weekend every summer for ten years with him as a kid. she is going after the votes of people like me and my father but it is not going to work in this family.

13. i love the smell of harley emissions, many bikers and gear heads likely agree
, it reminds me of being a kid and going out riding on the back of dad's harley. something with the straight pipes with no muffler and hot rod custom engines put into my dad's bike and those of his friends gave the smell of the emissions a different odor than that of most cars. perhaps it is a hot rod thing too? any greasers on here ??? my old man was a greaser as a teen hot rods and all, and got into bikes later.

i doubt palin has toured america and gone out riding as many times in her life as i did as a kid, one day i will get a bike too and yes i like the smell and sound of a hot rodded out v twin. i doubt palin even knows what the hell she is talking about.
the interests of rural and urban labor are the same, their enemies are

18. Nitro, methanol, CAM2
All have distinct ehaust smells, and the memory triggers they produce are strong and pretty positive - none smells like a badly tuned engine on old road gas.
(CAM2 is the original Sunoco racing gasoline, and, Im told, similar to the old Sunoco 260 - the gas that powered the musclecar era.) Racing gas is still the most reliable octane booster, and it is made from the best "cuts" off the refinery tower - Try about 30% with a good 93 octane, and wake the ol' hog right up!

20. sadly i dont have a bike yet due to financial issues, but i will tell
my dad about the octane booster you talk about, and yes, they boosted the octane on their bikes

is it something about just having the pipe come right out of the motor with no muffler and no catalitic converter? just a pipe?

on a side note do you think palin really has fond memories of harly hot rods or is it just a P R stunt? to this day when i hear or smell hotrod bikes i am transported back to my youth and i see my dad without all the white hair he has now.

21. Maybe snowmobiles?
I've not seen any hint that she or Toad had ever had to do with Harleys or hot rods.

As to the exhaust smell - catalytic converters definitely have to do with it. The straight pipe (low restriction exhaust) may, as well, because the incoming fuel/air "charge" is not diluted as much by un-exhausted gases. Older Harleys really like av-gas as well, straight or mixed - but avgas burns relatively slowly, because it is made to use in large, slow turning engines much like a Harley. My buddies tried some in a hot Fiat X1-9, and the damm thing would barely run! Mixing in some "camel piss" unleaded did the trick, and got the little monster back to snarling.

24. Aromas that take us back to childhood
Even if they're smells that really aren't pleasant, always have a special place in the heart. I love the smell of burning coal because it reminds of of crisp winter days in the Alps of my childhood. The sense of smell is a powerful memory trigger.

19. "I love the smell of napalm in the morning..."
When one of his men advises that the beach at Vinh Dinh Drop is perfect for surfing, having a six-foot peak and a bowl section that's "tube city", Kilgore changes his mind about escorting Willard and the PBR to the river and decides to capture the village. His men advise him that it's "Charlie's point" and heavily fortified. Dismissing this concern with the explanation that "Charlie don't surf!", Kilgore orders his men to saddle up in the morning to capture the town and the beach.
