Gates and Mullen Sabotaged Gen. James Cartwright's Chance of being Chairman of Joint Chiefs
Edited on Sun May-29-11 03:03 PM by Viking 1
Obama has instead settled on Army Gen. Martin E. Dempsey as his pick to become chairman, effective Oct. 1, said two U.S. officials speaking on the condition of anonymity because the decision has not been made public. The White House said Obama will make “personnel announcements” Monday regarding the Defense Department.

When Obama met with Cartwright on May 21, he told the general that Mullen and Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates — both of whom had long mistrusted Cartwright because of his independent relationship with the president and for opposing their plan to expand the war in Afghanistan — had recommended that he not get the job, said the military officials close to the general.
- Craig Whitlock, Washington Post, 05/28/11

9. #1: Gates was held over for Cabinet continuity; he was NOT "Obama's choice"
#2: Exactly what do you and your friend's questions have to do with the sandbagging of Cartwright?

13. This isn't a thread about Cabinet choices
If you're really upset that Obama kept Gates, then you should start a thread about that.

3. Yes.
One is an African American and the other is a savage. That's a nice difference.

12. I didn't say Obama was forced to pick Gates.
You wanted one significant difference and I gave you one. Obama is not a savage and Gates is not an African American.

Actually that probably counts as two.

6. So, a general stands up and tells the truth and gets cashiered.
Gen. Patton would not be proud, Bob.

14. What an interesting thread - Obama can't be held accountable for his own choices, &
Obama is African American..

What ever.
