The Warsaw Pact countries that established Communist governments after WWII did so with homegrown Communists. The Soviet "invasions" were temporary until the local Communists had things back under control (or they replaced an independent minded leader with a more Moscow friendly one). The Soviets also let most of the economic benefit accrue to the new satellites, resulting in higher living standards in Eastern Europe than in the Soviet Union, partly to showcase the "success" of their ideology. Most of the anti-Soviet insurrections were out of business by 1949, because they had no supply line, so you can't compare it to the Viet Cong bogging down Americans in a "Vietnam experience".

If you were in Russia.. would you be pissed? This is what passes as "Foreign Poicy".
