(WI) GAB OKs recalls against 3 more Republicans
Edited on Tue May-31-11 12:26 PM by PeaceNikki
Madison - State election officials on Tuesday approved recall elections against three Republican senators but declined for now to take up recall petitions against three Democrats.

Republicans decried as political the decision to take up the petitions against GOP senators but not Democratic senators. Officials with the Government Accountability Board denied that, saying they haven't had time to review detailed challenges by Democrats to the petitions filed against them.

"What the GAB has done is purely partisan and intended to discredit our recall," said a statement from Dan Hunt, who led the effort to recall Sen. Bob Wirch (D-Pleasant Prairie).

The board unanimously approved recall elections for Republican Sens. Rob Cowles of Allouez, Alberta Darling of River Hills and Sheila Harsdorf of River Falls.

This is huge. Accentuate the positive.

3. Interesting details on the Democratic challanges
"The Democrats have challenged the recall petitions against them in a different way, which has contributed to the delays. The Democrats allege fraud was perpetrated in gathering many of the signatures and, because of that, all of them should be thrown out."

4. To the crybaby repukes out there
Boo friggin' hoo. There is an old biblical saying, "You reap what you sow" (paraphrased). You planted the seeds of Union busting, you live with it.
If they were truly bible types like they (likely) claim to be, they would have read that, understood it, and followed the advice. But they chose to follow the money and now it may cost them their political careers. And it is doubtful that there will be a lot of sympathy for them.

5. After the Prosser "victory"
I have little faith in the WI GAB's standards, if they think that horrid mess in Waukesha was acceptable.

7. I'm in MN
but I've been following the recount here and on BradBlog.

If the same equipment and procedures are used in the recall, then I predict Kathy Nickolaus' (or insert other GOP operative's name here) incompetence will somehow cloud the results.

P.S. I do truly hope I am wrong!

8. Well, understand some of what you read on the internets is sensationalized.
I generally trust our elections here in Wisconsin. I was at the recount 12 days. I saw anomolies. I saw slop. I did not see clear evidence of election fraud. There was sloppiness that leaves the possibility of fraud open, but no actual blatant evidence of fraud. Acceptable? No! But not the same as obvious fraud.

I catch a lot of flak here on DU for not buying into the whole "THIS ELECTION WAS STOLEN!" meme. I think it would be VERY difficult to do in this state. Not impossible, but very tough. I am also very careful about not making the "ALL OF OUR ELECTIONS ARE STOLEN" assertion because I think it's dangerous. Making this proclamation will do NOTHING to help voter turnout. In fact, it will keep people from the polls, hence the danger.

Kloppenburg conceded loss and that sucks. She came from a 30+ point deficit and fought hard. She pushed for the recount and helped us get a very rare audit of the process that should help future elections. I am sick and tired of DU saying she has "no balls" or implying that our great state can't run a fair election or acting like we're idiots who can't run a recount. It was done well, even right here in my home of Waukesha County.
