How sad that DU has become a TV surrogate
A place where so many people are surprised that other DUers don't own TV's or don't watch much TV or don't watch any MSM on their TV's.

It appears to be now dominated by people who watch TV all the time.

And don't have a clue.

If it wasn't for my TV I would not know who Casey Anthony and Snooki are and I wouldn't know everytime Princess Kate changes her outfit. There's no way you can stay on top of these, any many other important issues unless you watch a lot of TV.

Well, I suppose you could read People Magazine and the National Enquirer, but print just cannot keep up on all the latest details the way the TV can. DU comes close, but there are not nearly enough threads about Princess Kate, especially ones with pictures.

What is so bad about speaking of current events. You really think that is the only thing DUers care about?

First, there are lessons to be learned about this trial despite of those thinking that watching such trial is below them.

Second, people can do multiple things at once. I can read about the trial , check on what is going on with Walker, Rick Scott, and the assholes in the house of representatives acting like kids about to have their "candy priviledges" taken away; read-answer emails, read for school and do my homework (three page essay for tomorrow). Not only that but, I get to watch "trash TV" for entertainment purposes and play Scrabble in my cel phone. All while chewing gum!!!

Lastly, good for you that do not have a TV! Great that you can manage without it. Now, stop being so bloody vain!

Remember when Smirko McCokespoon swore up and down he never heard of that man who supported his opponent, Ann Richards? In 10 minutes, we had more information about the true relationship between House of Bush, Kenny Boy Lay and ENRON than could be found on the tee vee then or since.

Specifically, I believe, in reference to the Twilight Zone episode
in which a bank clerk wants only to be left alone to read books. He
survives a nuclear war in the bank vault, goes to a library, emerges
with a stack of books, free at last to read as much as he wants,
drops his glasses, and accidentally steps on them.

75. I don't own a TV
and I don't watch it, either, unless it's a specific show, and let's just say I tend to watch the commercial-free versions on my PC. MSM news? Hell no, and advertisements are really just as bad at attempting to twist our perceptions of the world.

86. Are you against radio too, or is it just TV? There's nothing wrong
with being up to date on current events and with being entertained by current pop culture. I don't understand people who hate TV. I wonder if these people would have also hated radio when it was the dominant entertainment. I suspect they would have.

From my observation, people who hate television tend to be less informed about the world around them and they seem kind of boring, narrow and stuffy. JMO
