1. It's called a voting booth....
Why should we be able to force his constituents to pick someone else if they want to continue to run this idiot back the DC?

4. Do you believe that Utah voters would have elected a better Senator?

7. The people of Utah....
...are electing a Senator to represent THEM, not the remainder of the country. That is the way it works.

3. So, you would have forced Ted Kennedy out of the Senate decades ago?

11. Yup
A fair tradeoff if it also forces out Jesse Helms and Strom Thurmond.

12. Yes. He stayed too long
His effectiveness during democratic majorities would have been equally effective for a different dem of his leanings, and during a republican majority, a "newer" person may not have been as eager to cut deal with republicans, and might have not entered into so many watered down less-than- effective, nibble-at-the edges legislation.

Since the 60's, dems in congress have not moved us left..we have been on a steady march to the right...probably because of all the "friendships" and deal making.. Congress should not be a "club".. It should just the the place where the will of the people gets done.

I would go one step further and change the whole thing.. NO PENSIONS for legislators unless they achieve 20 CONSECUTIVE years in congress, BUT...

here's how they would do it..

house terms become 4 yrs..max 2 terms
senate stays at 6.. max 2 terms..

To get a pension, they would have to serve in BOTH houses, and do it without a break in service..

I would also outlaw lobbying by any entity that was not a TRUE non-profit.

5. That's why we need to further restrict democracy?
Is that like destroying the village in order to save it?

6. He's a Utah Senator
With term limits he would be replaced with someone as equally as crazy, if not more-so.

8. As long as people vote for "the name you know" there will be no limits.
The elected officials will surely enact no legislation that would limit their time at the feeding trough.

10. Term limits are a terrible idea.
Want a good example? Look at the Florida and Ohio Legislatures.

It was originally conceived as a quick fix to help Republicans take over from entrenched Democrats. But, in the mean time, you lose all institutional memory, and leadership is based on who can pass out the most goodies to their cronies.

Here in Florida, they steal as much as they can, as fast as they can in their limited time.
