Economic Homeopathy
The debunked, quack medicine of Homeopathy is based on the claim that giving small doses of something to produce the same symptoms as the illness will cure the patient.
So now we have Economic Homeopathy.
Tax cuts and deregulation drives the economy off the cliff. Recovery is hamstrung by reducing and eliminating any Keynesian forces that will help.
What does the GOP, Obama and the Washington gaggle suggest?
Tax cuts, deregulation and curtailing any Government spending that could pump up the economy and ease the economic slide.
Give the country something that produces the same symptoms?
Doesn't work in medicine, doesn't work in economics.

5. The failure of progressives to state the obvious
astounds me.
Or perhaps they do and their voices never reach the MSM.

3. Homeopathy is pseudoscience
But it is not what you describe.

In homeopathy, the dilution is so great that there is statistically no agent left in the "medicine." Homeopathy is essentially giving nothing to a patient and saying it will cure them.

The economic equivalent would be to do nothing and say it would fix our problems. Since there is nothing wrong with Social Security or Medicare in the first place, I would prefer economic homeopathy to what is currently being proposed.

4. This is true
But I did not want to "dilute" my analogy :)
That is how it is put into practice, but the substances they choose to mix in the water are still based on the like vs like idea. The theory behind it is still as I described.

6. The odd part of this is that the Laffer curve
that was used to argue for the Reagonomics that anointed tax-cutting as a holy policy was actually an optimization curve.

The R's have long left the basis of their argument behind in favor of endless advocacy for tax-cutting. It's as if revenue enhancement is off the kitchen table.

That's a strange thing for folks that are so into kitchen table based economic explanations. If a family found itself in financial trouble, you can bet there would be at as much interest in finding additional income as there was in cutting off spending for Grandma's healthcare.

8. I have my fingers crossed that
a Homeopathy adherent doesn't hijack the thread.
