Boehner not budging on Taxes, despite Obama's kind words
Boehner isn't going to give an inch, apparently. Though he'll be "nice" about it.
"Our disagreements are not personal and never have been," House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) just said of the ongoing discussions he's been having with Democratic President Obama about deficit reduction.
And Boehner said he appreciates the kind words Obama had to say earlier today about the speaker's efforts to forge a "grand bargain" that leads to significant deficit reduction and action on controlling costs for Social Security, Medicare and other so-called entitlement programs.

But Republicans, Boehner told reporters on Capitol Hill, "do not agree that the government needs more revenues through higher taxes on job creators." The House will not pass such legislation, he added.

He also said: "The president continues to insist on raising taxes, and are just not serious enough about fundamental entitlement reform to solve the problem."

So Boehner and House GOP won't budge on tax cuts for the rich and Dems in congress presumably won't budge on steep Medicare and Social Security cuts. How will this get resolved? My guess is that enough Dems will cave in because Obama will cry to them that if the debt limit isn't raised it will destroy the economy and they won't be re-elected.

2. The American people are not on Boehner's side. They are perfectly fine with taxing the rich
and they don't like the idea of "fundamental reforms" aka Ryan plan.

3. And just WHY is this not the headline news?
Several news outlets reported that 80+% of people (all parties) surveyed support raising taxes on the wealthy. The news mumbled something out it and went straight back to the sensational soundbyte du jour.
