Family ties bring Murdoch more US legal worries
Source: Sydney Morning Herald

RUPERT MURDOCH'S News Corp is facing legal fallout in the US from the British phone hacking scandal with a lawsuit alleging the company has a ''culture run amok'' and a board which failed to properly investigate criminal conduct.

The lawsuit also accused Mr Murdoch of treating the company like a ''family candy jar''.

The company faces the possibility of a separate investigation by US authorities under laws banning US companies from paying bribes in foreign countries.

News Corp responded with a motion to dismiss the case as without merit but that was superseded this week by an expanded case against each of its directors - including Rupert, Lachlan and James Murdoch, Jose Maria Aznar, a former president of Spain, and Sir Rod Eddington, the chairman of Infrastructure Australia.

1. investigated in the U.S.?
i'm guessing this falls under the "look forward, not back" policy.

The US law bans American companies from bribing officials to ''obtain or retain'' business. The US Department of Justice will not say if it is investigating the matter. The US Securities and Exchange Commission has the power to investigate News Corp to see if it paid bribes and accounted for them as something else.
