Perilous Plot: Religious Right Leaders Scheme To Intervene In 2012 Presidential Election

~snip~
But the media, so intent on polls and personalities, is missing a huge story: The Religious Right’s attempt to pick our next president.
~snip~

~snip~
Whenever we write about meetings like this, some people wonder, what’s the big deal? Don’t pastors and other religious leaders have the right to get together and talk about who they would like to be president?

They do – but when theocrats who head multi-million-dollar ministries and political operations meet behind closed-doors to select a candidate to implement their agenda, the rest of us would do well to be informed about that situation. Our rights and freedoms are at stake.

The plan also raises questions of federal tax law. Many of the participants in these Leadership Summits head non-profit outfits. Once they’ve rallied around a candidate, what exactly do they plan to do to promote him or her? Will they use their tax-exempt ministries to intervene in partisan politics?

1. Why is this news?
They have done this before.

All the repub candidates are a joke, one clown following another out of the clown car.

What will they do if Romney is the nominee? Unfortunately, he seems like the only real, palatable choice.

Not that he is palatable to me!

I think they would endorse him and make excuses about why this is good. They would do it, even though they think Mormons are not Christian.

They might like someone else more, but TPTB in the repub party will not sit still for Palin, Bachman or one of those other clowns.

I think the RR has nothing.

5. Romney is the only person with any chance but
I really would not be surprised if he didn't get the nomination.

Hell if writing a poorly written blog was profitable, I would copy this guys style in a minute.

Yes Folks, even people who believe in whatever nuttiness that qualifies as a religion are permitted to partake in the political process.

The tax issue is a red herring, if they do violate the laws pertaining to it, they will be fined and lose their status.
