The idea that social security checks may not be forthcoming will go national
tonight on the CBS Evening News when Scott Pelly asks the President what will happen if a deal is not reached.

That program has a large national audience, much more than all the cable "news" networks do. Millions even.

What will be the reaction from people who will be hearing this for the first time and who will be hearing the checks they depend on to live may not be coming after Aug. 3rd?

1. A lot of TeaBaggers...
Are going to make a lot of noise.

I think that's a good thing.

"The Idea" is all there is... won't happen... but it's a hell of a hail mary!

2. Exactly. The stupid rubes don't realize their teabagger buds collect
SS checks also. I think Prez. is playing this quite well. Chancey? Yes. Workable? Definitely.

That Social Security, Medicare, and the food stamps their kid in the basement collects, are all social programs... the core of socialism. Get your damn government hands off my socialism!

3. Ran across the street to the bodega to get a coke this afternoon
I invite you to see the reaction I overheard from what is likely a teabagger (I don't know her) about this topic:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=1475352&mesg_id=1475352

Bodega had CNN on as they always do, which triggered the comments.

I am glad you think this is a good thing. I for one hope he knows what he is up against.

4. Wow... that is amazing...
How do people manage to survive in this life while being so ignorant?

I bet he knows all too well what he's up against... he sees a lot more of them than we do... he has to deal with them all the time.

I think he framed this whole deal perfectly, and the GOTP are falling for it... hard.

7. What can I say. I have a family member who is convinced
that he is the Anti-Christ in the flesh. Sadly, no I am not joking.

I can't imagine what it must be like going through life just believing the first thing you are told without seeking out other points of view or alternate explanations. So, these types don't surprise me, but then again, they do when you encounter it unexpectedly and so sure of their facts that aren't even remotely connected to reality.

18. I have TeaBagger cousins just like that...
The arguments are astounding... they just don't care, don't have a clue, and hate is all they know. It makes me sad... we have some beautiful, kind, and gentle sweethearts in our family who happen to have brown skin. I'm always afraid someone is going to get their feelings hurt by an idiot cousin who doesn't have a clue, or the sense to figure anything out on their own.

6. It won't work on most Californians over age 30
We've seen similar threats coming from our state government when it couldn't get its shit together on a budget numerous times in the past 25 years of so.

12. The same thing that always happens!
He'll get the blame because people can't see the truth about the whole thing. The average person will end up blaming him, and not those who deserve it.

This is the republicans fault, but somehow I bet they'll work the blame to him.
