1. Thats what happens when the government defaults
There is no money for anything. Its not going to ever happen but if it did happen, please put the blame where it belongs, right square in the laps of the Republican party, they are the ones fucking with us.

2. If that happens the repigs are done for a generation.
Their only base are old people. The question is whether Obama will stand up and use this against them.

4. I don't think you understand the vast majority of our citizens.
They will blame the President. It is much simpler that way then to try to figure out which of those men in suits they see on the evening news are to be blamed. Its that guy in the White House. end of story

22. Never underestimate the stupidity.
Here was a conversation I overheard in my neighborhood bodega this afternoon when I walked over for a coke, specifically related to SS checks:

3. If there are checks that don't go out next month, start with Congress
Not that it would really hurt them, since they're all tax dodging millionaires on the corporate tit. But at least it would be a symbolic strike against those actually causing the problem.

If buildings, apparatus, and personnel are closed/not working, the checks won't be mailed.

20. Did they go out when the GOP shut down the govt in the 90's?
I'm 99% sure they did NOT, thereby angering thousands of voters against them.

PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I GOT THIS WRONG!

23. They will go out. The system is computerized now
Medicare premiums are automatically deducted and then the balance is direct deposited either into bank accounts or debit cards. Unemployment is the same thing as is WIC.

Direct deposit is automatic (to a bank account or debit card). They don't need to do anything - it is automated.

It's ironic.

SNL and others thought it was funny when Al Gore spoke about a lock box for SoSec.

And then along came BushCo.

My how times change.

Edited on Thu Jul-14-11 08:34 AM by jimlup
It's really the republiscum that have put us here. Let's put the blame where it belongs. I mean Obama is certainly not all we had hoped for but I claim we were really pretty naive if that's what we thought we were getting.

Yeah, I know the dems are not perfect but they are not the reason for the current crises. They just aren't. What do you want them to do bend over and grab their ankles? Jeez?

Did I post to the wrong site or something? Isn't this DU? Or did I miss a turn??

26. Direct deposit is automatic. Proceeds are programmed with a destination
and off they go.

The biggest mistake they made was by stating that the funds might not be there. That is a line of crock as these funds aren't in the general fund, they are in their own fund. By saying that, Obama stated that SS was part of the budget (and deficit) which by law isn't true.

Edited on Tue Jul-12-11 05:50 PM by Marr
the big "compromise", which will be sold as having saved us all from economic armageddon. And if you point out what a scam the whole thing is, the very same people who are currently saying this is Obama's brilliant "rope a dope" strategy will say you just don't care about Grandma Pearl. The people currently saying you have nothing to worry about-- that Obama would never cut Social Security or Medicare-- those very same people will say you were naive for believing such a silly idea, and you need to grow up and get pragmatic and eat your peas.

This is a repeat of the Bush Tax Cut extension con job from just a few short months ago. Remember how that was sold? If you didn't agree with handing some $800 billion to rich people (enabling the current phony "crisis", btw), then you just didn't care about the unemployed.

This is a scam. They are going to raise the debt ceiling in the end, and would do even if they didn't get a single concession. They're going to do it because that's what Wall Street wants, and Wall Street always gets what it wants.

Are you enjoying the Kabuki Theater?
I'm finding the Timing and Choreography to be superb.

Unfortunately, I've seen this one before,
and it doesn't end well for the Working Class, the Retired, and the Poor.

Cherish your memories, SUCKER!
because we're TAKING everything else!
Hahahahahahaha!
