All he has to say is: "If you don't increase the debt ceiling, I will be forced to end the wars, and
cut the pentagon budget by 75%, any outstanding defense payments will be suspended.

Crisis over.

3. He should say that anyway, regardless of the debt ceiling.
Then they wouldn't have to worry about money for Social Security and Medicare.

No President, liberal or otherwise is going to snap his/her fingers and say that not one more penny will be spent on existing military engagements when the troops are already deployed. You can complain about the speed at which troops are being withdrawn from Iraq and Afghanistan, but they cannot be instantly removed, and no President is going to fail to support their needs, or use them as a bargaining chip.

7. How long should it take?
1 term? 2 terms? 2 years? 4 years? 8 years? Making excuses and trying to justify it is looking worse and worse as time goes by. I myself am calling bullshit, if they wanted to end these wars they would.

19. Yes they can be removed immediatly, by direct order of the CiF. But all it has to be is the threat
to leverage his position - although that is what he should do for a whole host of reasons.

PS - this pres is failing to support their needs, by flailing them about aimlessly in the mid east in order to increase corporate profits.

9. Reverse hostage taking jars them to bone.
The Social Security statement today scared them into movement. Putting our military footprint on the chopping block would absolutely terrify them.

21. I'm not sure that would have the same effect...
I mean, imagine how DU would look...

"YEAH!!! government default to end the wars! Go for it!!!"

Not even sure it would matter all that much to anybody, really. Even many Republicans. Especially if they're struggling to pay their bills. Think of it. No job. No healthcare. Losing their homes maybe. People just aren't going to be all that outraged over it.

IMO
