Those who are still living in reality recognize that there is still a default threat, and what other deal, besides the one offering up SS and Medicare cuts, are the GOP going to grab ahold of? McConnell's plan? That's an unconstitutional non-starter.

No, you are simply jumping to conclusions based on the vague statements of two Senators.

Well, given the Obama track record, I can understand taking two vague statements and turning them into victory, you need every "victory" you can get.

15. Very elementary school of you there, making fun of people's names
As far as your "evidence", it is an opinion piece about McConnell's "last chance" option. Not really evidence that would hold up in court now, is it.

Not to mention that any chance of adapting this plan is exactly nil. The Constitutionality issues alone preclude that.

But keep dancing in circles in your own little bubble. Meanwhile, back here in reality, nothing has changed.

meaning that no deal is necessary. Pretty much what I'm reading everywhere except here on DU by Obama haters, even our local paper has it that way. The republiCONs are going to allow the debt ceiling to be raised, simple as that. No deals, no more negotiations, its done.

I see the unrec'rs have got to this one. Can't have any truth or logic here now can we???

31. Shit, we are far from out of the woods on this issue.
There never was a danger of default for the exact reason there is no danger now, the money people aren't having it. Their schemes are dependent on free to cheap money and driving up interest rates on the Treasury ATM is not good for profits.

This austerity conversation is far from over but Obama has already surrendered in principle the only discussion is how deep to cut and whether to privatize or not.

puts Social Security & Medicare "on the table",
and some are calling this a WIN?

41. wow
nothing is agreed upon. The Republicans rejected the 4 trillion dollar package because it included revenues from ending tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations. What our President did was first to untie the knot the republicans had on debt ceiling and debt reduction. The Republicans have admitted that the debt ceiling needs to be raised. Now hopefully the position as reflected by the Democratic reps (and some Republicans) with regard to debt reduction should be no cuts in SS, Medicare, and Medicaid and tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations should end.

42. You DO realize that the Republicans would have NEVER..
...allowed us to reach the Debt Ceiling.
Their BIG financial backers would have NEVER allowed it.
It was ALL a bluff to allow Obama and the to move to the RIGHT,
and whether you wish to admit it or not,
they were successful.

Social Security & Medicare (what Obama has agreed are "Entitlements")
ARE now "On the Table",
and there will indeed be deep "spending cuts" during a Recession & Jobs Crisis,
something a "DEMOCRAT" would never Say or Do.

Repeat: The Republicans would have NEVER allowed us to hit the Debt Ceiling.
It was a BLUFF.
The National Debate has now moved WAY to the RIGHT,
with our Democratic President adopting ALL the Republican Framing.

A WIN???
...not for this old mainstream FDR/LBJ DEMOCRAT.

Who will STAND and FIGHT for THIS American Majority?
You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.

46. ...maybe YOUR "reality",
But in the real World of this old, mainstream FDR/LBJ DEMOCRAT,
our leadership has crossed the Rubicon on several Untouchable Democratic Values.
The Republican BLUFF of not raising the Debt Ceiling forced (allowed?) Obama and the Dem Leadership
to move WAY to the RIGHT, and adopt the Republican Framing.

*Massive Spending Cuts during a Recession and Jobs Crisis?

*Social Security & Medicare cuts as a Bargaining Chips?

*"Entitlements"?

*"Debt Crisis"?

---ALL from a "Democrat"?
Are you kidding me?

"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans.
I want a party that will STAND UP for Working Americans."
