SoCal Conservatives Push For Own State
http://slatest.slate.com/posts/2011/07/13/riverside_county_supervisor_jeff_stone_leads_south_california_se.html

Apparently tired of being lumped in with embarrassing blights such as Silicon Valley, Hollywood, Napa Valley and giant redwood forests, conservative elected officials from southern and eastern California are mounting a bid to secede from the state.

Or perhaps they’re just tired of being outvoted.

Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Stone is leading the push to form the new state of “South California.” Made up of 13 conservative-leaning counties, including Fresno, Orange, San Diego and San Bernardino, the 51st state would be the nation’s fifth-largest by population.

Stone told the New York Times he’s fed up with California’s dysfunctional state government, which routinely deadlocks over budget crises. “We have businesses leaving all the time, and we’re just driving down a cliff to become a third-world economy,” he said of a state whose economy is the eighth largest in the world.

1. And California is declining WHY, kids?
Edited on Wed Jul-13-11 10:54 AM by arbusto_baboso
Because of the idiot conservatives like Jeff Stone who have been stonewalling any real budget solutions for a couple of decades now.

3. This is a racist thing. The counties are not South California'
but rather inland central CA. The northern most county is as far north as SF. To call it 'South California' is just absurd.

5. Oh wah, we can't be racist corporate thugs, oh wah!!
Why don't they move to Arizona like some of the other cons did from California.
They have 4 years of Governor Brown to look forward to.
So that is going to twist their little teeny mind blobs.
Or else their heads will just explode one day walking down the street.

7. Oh, please...leave...and take Darryl Issa and his district with you.
Good luck with whatever little "Lord of the Flies" state government you create. Lessee, you could vote Meg Whitman in as your governor and Carly Fiorini for one of your senators for starters.

9. What a joke
There is ONE road, I-15, connecting the Central Valley half to the Inland Empire half. Speaking of the Inland Empire, it, along with Orange County, are closely tied to L.A. (still in Real California) by such things as broadcast media and commuter railroads. Would "South California" still pay into Metrolink?

Stone told the New York Times he’s fed up with California’s dysfunctional state government, which routinely deadlocks over budget crises.

:wtf: Thanks to Prop 25, they got a budget passed on time this year! Granted, it was a shitty all-cuts budget, with more "trigger" cuts looming -- but isn't that precisely what Stone wants?

11. I have only one thing to say:
Buh-by. :hi:

My only hesitation would be all the wildnerness they would control and then proceed to fuck up. :( If there was a way around that. I would 100% be for it. Those asshats have beed dragging down our State with their brand of fiscal insanity for decades.

12. I propose giving all those disgruntled conservatives an area to call their very own.
It is that huge floating island of plastic that is growing ever-larger in the Pacific Ocean.
