I DIDN'T RECEIVE MY SOCIAL SECURITY CHECK THIS MONTH!
But I don't get social security. My other hobbies include senseless fear mongering and rabble rousing.

10. To Which I Completely Agree. There Are TOO MANY Worried People
out here, and while I think you probably wanted to "make funny" this really isn't an issue that's all that funny.

My husband retired early so we could care for his mother who had Alzheimer's. She lived with us for almost 10 years and while I did work for a while, I too had to stop because he had to start working part time to make ends meet. So now we DEPEND on his SS check because not only did his mother NOT have an insurance policy when she died, she also had a home that we are UNABLE to sell right now. We could give it away, but we are trying to keep it long enough so we can try to break even.

The place needs to be kept up, and we have our own home also. Her place is a 2 hour drive away, so we are spending more money than before. No income and we don't make it at all!

And yes, we do try to do whatever jobs come our way to supplement, but they aren't regular high paying jobs. My husband is now 69 and I doubt he will be picked for employment over someone who's 40! And a 40 year old may have less of a chance than a 25 year old. I just don't know.

22. Have you looked at a reverse mortgage?
Could help out with one of the homes.

I don't think it's a good idea to keep a home in this market and wait for the market to catch up. Even if you are the owner of the home through inheritance or probate you and your husband are not responsible for the debt(unless you refinanced the house).

Your situation is exactly the sort of situation that showcases the need for these checks. And again, my apologies for my crass opening post, my point is that I think that the money will keep coming and that the administration is using fear mongering to put pressure on congress. It will work...but it's scaring the pants off of people.

7. tell you what...
if a single check is not sent out to a single social security recipitent because of the debt ceiling debate/issue, I will proudly declare myself a dumb ass.

However, there is no way this is going to happen. It's a scare tactic. Obama doesn't want riots and he's not going to do allow anything to happen to the demographic that actually gets out and votes.

Relax.

17. This is the internet....
so maybe I'm in my moms basement right now. But, if I wasn't, I'm in a line of work where twenty percent of my clients receive unemployment and/or social security as their primary income. I have to have these conversations with people every day. I earnestly believe that the unemployed are screwed...and advise them to not count on extensions. However, for those that are getting social security, I am advising them that they will likely get their checks next month and that the president was outlining a worse case doomsday scenario. My phone has not stopped ringing since he made that comment.

So..my frustation is high. I think that it was an irresponsible but ultimately effective comment to put pressure on congress to work with him. I work in the private sector and I'm getting a thousand calls from seniors and the disabled. I have to imagine that they are lighting up their congress reps as well.

12. HAHAHAHA!
that's funny! I know because it made me laugh out loud or LOL!

Anyhoooo....my sincere apologies to you and your ilk. My only point...which obviously was poorly written based upon your HILARIOUS post...is that I (meaning me) think that it is RIDICULOUS to even act like we MIGHT stop paying social security in the next few months. I- again this is me- believe that anyone that pushes this concept is fear mongering and that we all know that the government is not going to deprive the citizens that need help the most of their benefits.

Please, by all means, feel free to disagree with that concept or discuss it...I've been doing it all day at work and we all have different opinions. I am not mocking anyone or anything. I thought that was obvious..but hey- guess it was not. Peace.

I'm not mocking people that need social security and other government benefits. My heart goes out to them. I am chastising people who are scaring the shit out of these nice people. And I am mocking you. Sorry. I'm sure you're nice.

Personally, I enjoy throwing pies at homeless people and telling Your Mom jokes to orphans. Really tickles the ol reward circuits.
