................

The Republicans' congressional maps show that they know that Wisconsinites have rejected the GOP-plan led by Congressman Paul Ryan to destroy Medicare. That's why they've worked overtime to shore up their congressional districts at the expense of longstanding communities of interest like Milwaukee County and the Wausau-Stevens Point-Wisconsin Rapids alliance that have been in the same district for 100 years.

Their state Senate maps illustrate how desperate Republicans are to maintain their majority. In my hometown of Kenosha, they've decided to give up on trying to defeat my popular colleague, Sen. Bob Wirch, by completely drawing him out of his district.

And they didn't just do this in my hometown. They've also completely drawn Nancy Nusbaum and Rep. Fred Clark out of the Senate seats that they are seeking and they even went as far to cut the 2nd Senate District a half a block from Nancy's Nusbaum's house!

In the 8th Senate District they went out of their way remove Democratic areas and add Republican voters to shore up Sen. Alberta Darling's district because they know Rep. Sandy Pasch is an extremely strong candidate there...................

Or a fake Democrat either.

Politics blog: Obey accuses GOP of "raw manipulation of power" in redistricting plan

By MARY SPICUZZA mspicuzza@madison.com 608-252-6122 | (3) Comments | Posted: Wednesday, July 13, 2011 11:23 am

Former U.S. Rep Dave Obey tore into Wisconsin Republicans' redistricting plans on Wednesday, calling them a "raw manipulation of power."

"Anybody who thinks this is legitimate redistricting is smoking something that isn't legal," Obey said while flanked by Democratic lawmakers at a Wednesday morning news conference.

The longtime Congressman said the GOP-drawn maps would lead to further polarization in Congress and increase the costs of elections, and would be an "embarrassment to Wisconsin's reputation of good government."..................

redistricting is interfering with elections that have already been slated to occur. There must be a law on the books to cover this eventuality.

19. That's the ticket
be optimistic. I haven't seen the figures of just how many showed up to vote yesterday, I was happy with the percentages though. I see Recall Walker signs up all over the place...I got one of the giant ones to give to my daughter and one for me...as soon as the Senate recalls are over I'll be shoving that sign into the ground, front and center....

16. I think it doesn't affect next month's elections
The August recall elections concern the terms already begun for the districts already in place. Redistricting wouldn't go into effect until the 2012 election.

The Republican scheme is that a Democrat could win a recall next month, displacing a Republican, but then in 2012 the successful Democrat would find himself or herself living outside the district.

Stop the Redistricting Power Grab

Instead of doing their job and listening to their constituents, Scott Walker’s GOP lemmings are changing the game and rigging the rules so they can’t be held accountable for their own actions. They are doing this by drawing undemocratic, hyper-partisan districts that kick many legislators out of their own districts!

Stop the power grab. Raise your voice. Sign our petition for fair and balanced redistricting map.

Brothers and Sisters,

Yesterday, all six Democrats won their primary elections, defeating the fake, spoiler candidates who posed as Democrats to confuse voters and extend the recall process.

But since Wisconsin Republicans can’t win with votes, they’re trying every undemocratic dirty trick in the book.

Today, the legislators are meeting to draw up a highly partisan district map and rush it through in an extraordinary session before recalls can even take place.

These legislative maps are so ludicrous and hyper-partisan that they force many lawmakers out of their own districts!

• Reps. Nancy Nusbaum, Bob Wirch and Fred Clark will be removed from their own districts. They cut off Nancy’s house from her district by half a block.

• They are so scared of Rep. Sandy Pasch that they went out of their way to add more Republican voters to her seat.

Stop the power grab. Raise your voice. Sign our petition for fair and balanced redistricting map.

Working families’ voices will be silenced under the proposed maps. They are rigged so that when the people of Wisconsin reclaim their democracy in the August recall elections, Republicans will be able to sneak back into office in 2012 via GOP favored districts.

These anti-democratic legislative maps are being rushing through in an extraordinary session before recalls can take place. Extraordinary sessions are rarely used, until now. The rules are different. Debate is limited and democracy is circumvented.

This is an unprecedented power grab and the time to speak out is now. Redistricting happens once every ten years. The next time the lines are redrawn will be after the 2020 Census. This issue is the heart of who represents you in Madison and in Washington for a decade to come.

Stand up and be heard. Sign our petition for a non-partisan district map. Wisconsin needs to focus on good jobs and a better economy.

Even if we don't stop Walker and his friends in the legislature, we need to continue to make sure the governor, the legislature, and the media understand that the people of Wisconsin don't support their radical agenda. Please act now to save democracy in Wisconsin.

In Solidarity,

Phil Neuenfeldt, President

Stephanie Bloomingdale, Secretary-Treasurer

9. I know, I was quite depressed Sunday when I read that.
Bob Wirch doesn't deserve all this, he's a really decent man. But at least if he has to run against Samantha Kirkman, I think he could win. An ex-factory worker against a trust-fund baby in two factory towns (since they are combining Keno and Racine)...I think Bob has a good chance.

ours have stayed pretty much the same forever...just the addition of a few districts where there was actually new populations...(of course most of those were repub areas around those highway mega churches surrounded by new sub-divisions built by Ryan Homes and Newmann Homes (repubs)

Walker and Republican playbook--we can't win on policy, so let's make it really hard to get rid of us.

We can't win on policy, so let's decimate the opposition by attacking unions.

We can't win on policy, so let's run fake candidates.

We can't win on policy, so let's get rid of public hearings in the lawmaking process.

We can't win on policy, so let's make corporations citizens with the right to free speech, i.e. buy elections with absolutely legal misinformation campaigns.

We can't win on policy, so let's undermine our democracy until we win.
