Lifted off of a facebook posting...these people are fucking nuts...with no basis in truth.
>>>>>post Republicans are refusing to raise the debt ceiling (which is a GOOD thing) unless there is also a signicant cut in the deficit. It has nothing to do with lowering taxes. If we continue to raise the debt ceiling then we'll never deal with the fact that we are spending far more than we bring in, and that HAS to stop. If we raise the debt ceiling we will also likely see increased inflation, and a downgrading of our credit worthiness by other nations.
The Democratic position is to raise the debt ceiling, spend more money, and raise taxes to try and pay for it.
Social Security USED to be self-sufficient. But as of this year it will pay out more than it takes in. And this is BEFORE the baby boomers begin to retire which will be a doulbe whammy as they not only start collecting benefits, but also stop paying IN. Therefore something has to change.
We're two years into the Obama presidency. Blaming this debt on Bush just isn't possible. Although he DID raise the debt ceiling during his presidency because his spending policy wasn't much better that Obama's. If he had just lowered taxes and held the line on spending we would have been in MUCH better shape. Instead he collaborated with Dems like Ted Kennedy to vastly overfund education, and create a whole new entitlement program.
SO, in summation... Raising the debt ceiling, BAD. Raising taxes (especially during a recession), BAD. Social Security, BAD.
