Violent storms, 117 heat index, and no power now for 5 hours.
Edited on Thu Jul-14-11 12:25 AM by Elwood P Dowd
All I can do is surf the the net thanks to my MacBook, inverter, and battery power pack. Between the three along with a couple of LED lights to keep me from falling over furniture, I at least have DU entertainment. So what the hell is happening other than the ladies beating France today in the World Cup?

1. Never mind entertainment.
What do you have to eat and to cool you down?

3. Take care.
Our heat index was 120 the other day, it really really sucks. No violent storms though. Still lost power. When I was younger and poor as a church mouse I had no air conditioning in my apartment. I soaked in a cool bath in my clothes and slept on the porch. Stay cool and if the rain stopped and you can actually breathe through the humidity try that if you need to.

4. I didn't have it either years ago. . .
gosh, I used to hate going to bed at night. . .when I was a kid, my parents let us pitch a tent in the backyard and sleep out there on way hot summer nights.

We had one fan for the entire house - it was brought upstairs at night and downstairs during the day.

5. I remember the luxury
of our first air conditioner. It was a tiny little window job, barely enough for our small living room. My mother let us nap on a blanket on the floor in front of it with the TV on to her soaps. When it was gone we were again without. I hated the night too when it was so sticky and hard to find a non sweaty part in your bed.

Sorry OP for the short thread jack!

6. The heat index I mentioned was just before the storms hit late afternoon.
Now it's only about 80. Hope they get this fixed.

Storm blew into Chicago, and I had no power for 40 hours. Didn't cool off until 4am, no breeze, windows were little help.

Still many without power. Got the chance to clean out the fridge as frozen chicken shouldn't be squishy... :-)

Good luck!

10. It's running off the inverter and the power pac. The MacBook has been running off
its battery power for almost 6 hours. Looks like I have about 2 hours left.

12. MacBook now has 9 hours and power pac/inverter is down to 25%.
Looks like I will get 10 hours out of this rig when the power is out.
