Poll: Public Would Blame GOP In Event Of Default
WASHINGTON -- The country may not default on its debt obligations for another three weeks, but that hasn't stopped the public from getting ready to place blame should a debt ceiling agreement not be reached in time.

A plurality of registered voters said congressional Republicans are to blame in the event the debt ceiling is not raised in a poll conducted by Quinnipiac University from July 5-11.

When asked to whom they would assign responsibility should the limit not be raised, 48 percent of respondents chose the congressional Republicans; 34 percent said they would blame the Obama administration.

These results echo a Pew Research Center poll conducted from June 16-19 which asked the same question as the Quinnipiac poll. According to that survey, 42 percent of respondents said they would blame Republicans in Congress if the debt ceiling were not raised; 33 percent chose the Obama Administration.

3. Personally, I'll blame...
...the American people if we don't recall the ring leaders. I can be an ass till the cows come home, intractable and rock solid. However, I vote for people with better skills than I to get things done -vs- be models of ideological purity. Diplomats are needed so that the dogs of war may sleep.

4. THIS is why Obama should refuse to negotiate with the Republican leadership on the debt ceiling
No cuts whatsoever!

Republicans will cave eventually just like they would have caved on unemployment benefits in late 2010.

If the Tea Baggers send the US government into default, we Democrats and progressives ought to drag out something appropriate, accurate, and devastating to use on them. "Not worth a continental" would be a splendid turn-off for people trying to dress up in 18th century clothing and pretend to be patriotic. The Continental Congress' policies helped send the pre-1789 dollar into the toilet, today's Republicans are trying to repeat history. They deserve the highly unfavorable comparison.

I had an old post-Revolutionary War document concerning a debt between my ancestor and someone else. The debt was payable in British pounds sterling--NOT in US money. Someone should tack this folly to the Repugs with super-glue.

I think it's a GREAT idea. Unfortunately the DNC seems to be stuck on making nice and trying to play Mister Nice-guy when dealing with the thuggish, amoral, ruthless, dishonest, lying crooks in the other party.
