AboutThe $86 million raised:$37 m small donations$49m large donations
The vast fund-raising comes in two relatively distinct components: over half a million small donors, and large donors, from the wealthy and the most affluent sections of the upper-middle class.

A total of 552,462 individuals gave money during the second quarter, including 260,000 who made no donations during the 2008 campaign. Of these, 98 percent were of $250 or less, with an average contribution of $69. Based on that average, the small donations accounted for less than half the total raised, about $37 million.

The remainder, about $49 million, came in large-dollar contributions, including thousands who gave the maximum of $35,800—$30,800 to the DNC and $5,000 to Obama for America.
The Washington Post noted, “Much of the tens of millions Obama raised through the Democratic National Committee came from big fundraising events that the president attended throughout the spring. Donors to the DNC can give up to $30,800, and many of those who made the maximum contribution got to attend intimate, invitation-only dinners at which the president took their questions behind closed doors.”

Listen I'm glad Obama is out raising any and all Presidential Republican candidates but you need to be realistic and see reality with open eyes and ears. He will be the candidate and he will win.

If you have money to send, send it to the needy progressive democratic candidates for the house and senate.

Thats the change you can believe in to stop the madness endless wars, curb the MIC and really make change for this planet and nation. Your small contributions should go to local and regionally canidates that support your liberal and progressive ideals.

5. No I don't
He will handle it and a generic candidate is just an illusion
just like 'none of the above'...

Mr. Generic Candidate ..... why yes I've seen him on TV
and know how he stands on being generic.. Its a ridiculous
poll and doesn't mean squat until a real person is named.

6. And when a REAL person is named = Obama is ahead big time
On the link below there are several 'sections' of polls that show Obama vs. EIGHT different GOP possible candidates

7. The poll means nothing except Obama wins with a real person
and has a close race with an imaginary republican that doesn't exist in the real world

2. As broke as I am, I'm gonna do both....
Donate to the Prez, the DNC, and individual senate and rep races. It won't be much....but they are all important, and I try not to depend on others to get things done. I tried that once, and it didn't work.....in fact, it backfired on me.

3. The problem is going to be when the corporations start sending the GOP big bucks
They said on the news a couple of days ago that the GOP candidate will probably end up getting $500 MILLION from 'big donors'.
SO, Obama will need to have TONS of money to air ads etc to combat the big money of the GOP.

In my opinion the local and regional candidates will ride the coat-tails of Obama.

It is very important that we get President Obama re-elected. One of the main reasons: The Supreme Court. We must ensure that the GOP does NOT have the opportunity to appoint any Supreme Court Justices or Federal Appeals Court and/or District Court Judges for a very very long time!

Yes, the donations to local and state candidates are important, but PLEASE do not forget that Obama will need money to fight too :)

4. Coat tails mean nothing if you can't get a candidate on the ballot
Let alone Advertise, organize, rent offices because lack of funds

Yes, spend you money on Obama so his coat tails bring in
an imaginary candidate

$49 million is not chump change and it still beats what Bush
did by almost 2 to 1 at this time
