Britain resigns and hands itself in to the police
http://newsthump.com/2011/07/18/britain-resigns-and-hands-itself-in-to-the-police/

The entire United Kingdom has today resigned out of collective guilt and embarrassment, as the fallout from the News of the World phone hacking scandal continues.

The country, sometimes referred to as ‘Great Britain’, announced this morning that it would be stepping down from its duties as a moron-populated land mass, and handing itself in at the nearest police station – immediately after Bargain Hunt.

America told us: “While deeply saddened at Britain’s resignation, I respect its decision, and may even resign myself out of guilt and embarrassment, given that I actually let Rupert Murdoch operate from my place.”

Meanwhile Australia was more sanguine about the whole affair: “For years Britain sent its criminals over here. It’s my pleasure to return the favour. It’s called karma. Resignation’s too good for you, you whingeing pommies.”

2. Notwithstanding Newsthumps satire
The general feeling here, now often mentioned in news interviews etc, is that by and large the UK public couldn't actually give fuck about it being more preoccupied with jobs, housing, rising fuel costs etc. Its satisfying to know you don't have equal concerns regarding jobs whatever over there. :sarcasm:

3. Valid point but don't you think the ideological agenda and
dominance of Murdoch in both the US and Britain have promoted both the anti-union and anti-social good policies on both sides of the pond.

5. Not sure about
about him having any bearing on anti-social policies here and can't speak for the US.

The union subject is a deep one. Not sure how much you know about this : Wapping dispute http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wapping_dispute That was at at time when a lot of friends were in "in the print" so it remains a touchy subject.

The UK public seem generally happy to support unions until the unions take action of some description which affects them personally - then they turn against. As such unions try to amintian public sympathy.

Most papers outside of News International are trying to attract their readers. Whether or not they are succeeding is a matter of conjecture - hard to tell what's what until some recent distribution figures are published.

btw - I found an old Guardian link last night which claimed, as suspected , that Mirror group have been doing the same. Its the Mirror who have made the sole claim about 9/11 victims.

Good mornin' and pleased to see the storm missed you. :hi:

6. The thing is, though...

While some of these economic problems are due to worldwide recession, they have been made much worse here by this dreadful government and its cuts, not to mention the long-term effects of Thatcher's assaults on public services and British industry and promoting the banking and financial services as far too big a part of our economy; and Blair following her policies to far too great an extent.

If not for Murdoch et al, Thatcher might well have been a one-term Prime Minister and done much less harm; Blair might have met much more effective opposition over his dragging the Labour Party to the right; and Cameron might not have got in at all (he only barely did so as it was).

The scandal is important not just in itself, but because the Murdoch empire, together with other similarly unscrupulous and right-wing media moguls, have had a huge and horrible influence on our governments and policies, and thus on the mess that we're in.

I hope that the scandal will not only bring down the Murdoch empire, but will in general reduce the power of the media moguls.

9. The truth is if this situation had broken here
no police type agency would have done a thing about it. The Department of Justice is so corrupt, it can barely move but to bust medical marijuana smokers or round up immigrants or run guns to Mexico.

8. You should keep an eye on Newthump
or Newsarse as they were formally called - they've still got the old Newsarse FB link.

Todays headline is Two out of three workers are arse-kissing bullshitters, finds survey.

Private Eye , which has been running since 1961 , is worth looking at too : http://www.private-eye.co.uk/

But will there be any police left after *they've* all handed themselves in to the police?
