Fox News host: Romney ‘obviously not a Christian’
Source: Raw Replay
By David Edwards

A recent Gallup poll had Texas Gov. Rick Perry trailing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 4 percent to 13 percent among Republican voters.

But the hosts of Fox & Friends said Sunday that Perry would have an advantage if he decides to get in the race because Romney is “obviously not a Christian.”

“Only 13 percent of those people said Mitt Romney is their guy,” noted Fox News host Dave Briggs. “It looks perfect for someone like Rick Perry to get in.”

“Well the Christian coalition, I think he could get a lot of money from that,” host Ainsley Earhardt predicted. “Because Romney, obviously not being a Christian — Rick Perry, he’s always on talk shows — on Christian talk shows. He has days of prayer in Texas.”

2. Ha ha! How nice!
I hope Mittsy spends a fortune of his ill-gotten gains in a failed race--that's the way to plus-up the economy.

Of course, that Perry is an idiot as well.

3. This is obviously a big deal...
Since the biggest perquisite for getting elected president IS being a Christian.

What the hell does Mittens think he's doing?

5. There you have it. The RW's base is fundie christians and they
believe that Mormonism is not simply NOT christian, but that it is a CULT.

Lol. Romney is unelectable.

7. That's as against another "Christian". When he goes up against
the "muslim", they will vote Romney.

hatemongering is mainstream thought.

Protestantism of course has its roots in anti-catholicism. But I was raised Presbyterian, for example, and never heard a word of negativity directed toward Catholics. Never heard ANYBODY considered satanic.

The fundies have got tentacles into most sects of christianity. Doesn't mean they run things or are the way most people are.

12. I've been arguing this for a while
If Romney does become the nominee, the big-name right-wing Christians will rally around him - in various degrees of enthusiasm, but the flocks of these "Christians" - the ones that listen to them on the radio, the preachers of mega-churches on down to ministers of small, backwater churches, etc. have been fed (and fed others) a steady stream of Mormonism = Cult, and no matter how much the big-names push Romney, there will be a lot of their followers who just can't bring themselves to vote for a Mormon.

Which is also why I think Perry is going to jump in. The religious nutjobs at all levels would embrace him, and he would give republican voters a third choice between supporting a Mormon and supporting a crazy woman. He's dumb as a stump, but that doesn't matter any more. If his handlers were smart, if he got the nomination, he would offer the veep slot to Bachmann and pick up her crazed teabag supporters, turning into McCain/Palin 2.0, which would unfortunately be more formidable than version 1.

17. Don't think Baptists will warm up to Romney too much.
Conservative Catholics might have a problem with Romney, and they are the ones that vote Republican.

And those backwoods AM radio 'holler for a dollar' types will slobber over Perry.

20. I agree with your first point ... less so with your second ... unless ...
in the second, the "he" who selects Bachmann as VP is Romney.

I think on Romney and the Christian base, I'm with you ... they hate him. If they vote for him, the believe they will go to hell. That's how nuts they are.

If Perry gets in, the crazy Christian base, including the Tea Party will back him. In a sense, I think Perry doesn't need Bachmann. He could find some other Republican who is not a lightening rod, to help make himself appear sane.

I also agree that Bachmann is Palin version 2.0 ... Palin had no name recognition last time, and now her negatives are way to high to be VP choice again. Bachmann is gaining name recognition, and she's yet to generate the same negatives that Palin does. Although she might still do so.

13. What's a Christian?
You can't get them to agree among themselves on the definition. Which is just another reason why I'm glad I dispensed with the whole business years ago.

18. Barbie Doll Ainsley Earhardt doesn't sound like much of a Christian herself.
I am no fan of Mitt Romney or Mormanism but Mormans do in fact consider themselves to be Christians and Ainsley Earhardt has no right to make a judgment on that and it is quite unChristlike for her to do so.

19. Those old boys need to look at drought maps of Texas
Every time Perry gets all pious and gets a microphone and starts to pray, that drought gets one hell of a lot worse.

I think it's time to question just who that man is really praying to.

Pray for something -- and you don't get it.
