Massive protests at right wing radio stations.

For months Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and probably all the other national right wing talkers have been telling 50 million Americans a week that not raising the debt was no big deal.

They have been telling 50 million Americans a week that the risks are greatly exaggerated. Default is a crack in California. The US will pay its debt and then cuts will have to be made. Limbaugh says the 'bottom feeders' and 'parasites would be cut first, and there would be some privatizing going on. The idiot Tea Party and their idiot representatives apparently agree.

The reason the Republican Party is in a box now, taking us to the edge, is that those not stupid enough believe the radio gods and want default are afraid of the radio retribution. Grover Norquist is small potatoes compared to Team Limbaugh.

Nearly all of the current crop of Republican politicians were elected with the help of their state talk radio stations. Their success in the primaries is a function of their ability to channel Limbaugh and Hannity and the degree of endorsement they got from local right wing talkers.

Their talking points are reinforced there with daily repetition from 1000 radio stations, protected by call screeners, and sometimes prompted by paid callers. Their strategies are sold, rationalized, and excused from there.

Their opponents were swiftboated from there. They were lied about and their positions were distorted from those stations. Those stations can even help pick off more progressive Democratic candidates in favor of moderates.

That is where this looming default comes from, along with just about every other progressive failure the last 20 years. The Party of Lincoln has become the Party of Limbaugh. It is irrational, a party that continues to obstruct action on the biggest problem the planet has faced- global warming. If conservatives want their party back they're going to have to fire Limbaugh.

The progressive organizations finally need to stand up to the think tanks that have been using the national and local Limbaughs and the stations that broadcast them to sell this disaster that faces us. Those stations broadcast on public airwaves and are licensed to operate in the public interest. Many of our universities give them community credibility and endorse the Limbaughs by broadcasting sports on them.

Any protest or series of protests in any other location will be minimized from those stations, as they have been for 20 years. If the country defaults don't assume the Left will suddenly be able to message any better than it has. The internet continues to lose to talk radio. That same Republican think tank megaphone of 1000 coordinated radio stations will be able to pin a lot of the blame on Democrats and Obama. Protests can be turned into anything they want. That may be the reason the think they can gain by default- they own the biggest megaphone in the country. And it is unchallenged in any significant way that the talk radio faithful will notice.

Protests at appropriately located stations will get media coverage and politicians will notice. Democratic politicians will notice the Left is finally getting in Team Limbaugh's face. Local sponsors of those stations will notice and pull out. Those universities will look for alternatives for their athletics. Some of those stations will have to offer more balance.

In the short term, Republican politicians will get the courage to do the right thing. Obama and the Dems will be emboldened to do the right thing.

Until the Left's organizations finally challenge right wing talk radio their work, and the donations and the time put in by their volunteers, will continue to be minimized. And American democracy will continue to decline.
