Floridians pay for visiting governors' security

LEE COUNTY, FL -
A new report shows Florida taxpayers not only paying for Governor Rick Scott's security, but for visiting governors too. NBC2 Investigator Andy Pierrotti explains why governors' trips to Florida, whether for business or pleasure, costs all of us.

An annual report released by Florida's Department of Law Enforcement shows it cost taxpayers nearly a million dollars to protect Governor Rick Scott and the first family the first six months of 2011.

When governors from other states visit Florida, FDLE provides them the same protection.

It cost taxpayers more than $7,700 for Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and his family to visit Florida three times from July 2010 to July 2011. One of those visits involved a one-day trip to campaign for Gov. Scott last fall.
