2. he wasn't going to do it til after the debt crisis was resolved
That was the word in Oregon today.

Who is pushing him to hurry up?

Aren't some of those Pug pervs still in office?

4. I'm of two minds on this
The reporting in Oregon has been tilted heavily against Wu. Apparently, when this all broke back in February, Wu admitted that he was popping pain pills and promised to get help. Since then, he's been pretty clean from what I can tell. But there is a steady drip, drip, drip of items coming out from before February. He took a goofy Halloween photo of himself in a tiger costume, and the local news have been running that picture of Wu as if he just took it last week. And now the allegations of a young woman of a sexual encounter from last Thanksgiving. One wonders why she took nine months to decide that it was non-consensual. Wu has been badly wounded politically for five months.

But I'm glad he's decided to step down. His judgment (at least) has been publicly compromised and he doesn't appear to enjoy the confidence of his constituents anymore. Compare and contrast with the standard response we've become accustomed to seeing from Republicans caught in compromising circumstances.

6. It's felt to me like the Oregonian was really out to get him from day one. I don't know why.

But, yeah, we need to get someone new in there. Not like the area is short on Democrats.

5. It's Congressman, not Senator, and he hasn't resigned yet...
He was a horribly ineffective Congressman even before the latest scandals, and I'm not a bit sorry he's going. Now the REALLY interesting question is who's going to announce for the special election.

The good news is that OR-1st is one of the most solidly democratic districts in the nation, so I can just about guarantee that it will stay blue, and whoever wins can hardly be worse.
