Tee-hee. He really is boxed in as the article says. He obviously has no cred now with the President/Senate/House Dems and his own party won't vote on a bill.

He said he would have a bill at 4PM Sunday. Then somtime Monday night he released some bullshit plan. Then He says the House will vote on a bill today to send to the Senate. Now they called off the vote because he doesn't have them. Tee-hee.

My main concern right now is that he may seriously consider taking the advice of Donald Trump and decide that letting the country default will magically be taken as Obamas fault during the next election cycle.

The current Republican House has got to be the most dysfunctional group of fucking losers I've ever come across.

He doesn't seem like a badger but a deer in headlights. I think I'm more affraid he'll just stay tanked on scotch for the next week and do not much of anything. (Maybe that is a good thing.)

Look, he is a republican, and as such, I have no love for the guy.

But, my read is that he 1) knows a debt ceiling has to be passed for the sake of the country 2) knows that if one does not get passed, not even the corporate media is going to be able to provide the republican party cover for the consequences. I think he knows he is dead as speaker either way, and he will do what has to be done.

I don't see how this does not end with him having to put a bill up in the house that is supported mostly by democrats and whatever 20+ republicans that are in safe seats and can ride out a primary from a teabagger ...

US credit is certain to be downgraded. There is really no other choice.

US bonds have traditionally been priced based on the notion that a default is unthinkable. We now know, and the global markets know, that the US political system is out of control, that the right wing can and is actually contemplating a default just to make a political point, and that the President, sadly, is too weak and/or incompetent to stop them.

This being so, the rest of the world has to now do its best to insulate the global economy from the whacked-out, irresponsible and reckless US political system. Downgrading US bonds is a start.

What I see is the economy about to tank big time on the watch of President Obama.

As for the situation, there is nothing "obvious" at this point, other than that we are now headed for a deep recession caused by ignorant and reckless right-wing politicians who have out-maneuvered a weak and ineffectual President.

Leading economic indicators were signaling America was heading back into recession before these talks came to a crescendo. All the more reason the draconian cuts the House is proposing will have even more sever effects.

Boehner is of no consequence. What matters is that Obama has boxed himself in by misreading his opponents and by weak and ineffectual negotiations.

I think Obama will wear the economic nightmare that is about to unfold, and actually, he deserves to, what with him being President and all.

The only question now is how bad the coming collapse will be.

Are you for fucking real? You're saying that the President is holding the debt ceiling process hostage and not the Reukes? Are you saying that he racked up the $8 trillion in debt that Bush racked up during his 8 years? Are you saying it is the President's fault that he inherited the buggest economic collapse since 1929 and 1932? Are you saying that it it the President's fault we cut taxes on while going to war during the Bush era?

Boehner is of no consequence? He's the Speaker of the House. He is of consequence. It is easy to armchair quaterback negotiating important events such as budgets and debt ceilings. I'm sure you'd be a much better negotiator than the President.

That's the way it works. He's the President. When the economy tanks, he wears it. No-one will give a shit about Boehner in 2012.

And you know what? Obama actually deserves to wear this disaster because it was avoidable. He misjudged his opponents, he foolishly believed there would be a compromised middle way, he fucked up the negotiations badly, and he lost.

It's not a worthwhile question. Bragi sits around trying to invent ways that Obama has lost this or that. It's best to leave such people to their little scenarios.
