L.A. psychiatrist disciplined over treatment of 6-year-old":
Dr. Nicole Poliquin-Williams was issued a public reprimand by the Medical Board of California on July 15.
Poliquin-Williams had been investigated for failing to properly diagnose, dose and keeps records of the medications she prescribed to the boy and another patient, a 36-year-old woman, according to the Medical Board.
The 6-year-old was brought to her for treatment by his adoptive parents in 2005, suffering from temper tantrums, mood swings and sleeping problems, according to the accusation. Poliquin-Williams diagnosed him with bipolar disorder and prescribed him medications that included Ritalin, Risperdal, lithium and Prozac.
Poliquin-Williams also diagnosed the 36-year-old with bipolar disorder and prescribed her multiple psychotropic medications from 2001 to 2006, according to the accusation.
