A Nation Divided cannot stand....
America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. - Abraham Lincoln

1. It s begining to remind me of the collapse of the Soviet Union
Edited on Thu Jul-28-11 03:03 PM by Liberalynn
Raygun took credit for it but it really fell because it was corrupt in its core. Many similarities including the endless war in Afghanistan and the overspending on military aresonal. One of my professors actually kind of predicted this in the 1980's. It's begining to look like he was just off on the timing. Hope I am wrong but I can't stop worrying.

Early 1861 in America
Early 1930s in America

2. Did you know that Abe was vilified at the time for not ending slavery
earlier than he did? he had tactical (war) reasons for waiting since he couldn't piss off the border states and make them side with the South. He reasoned that if he lost the war then whatever he proclaimed wouldn't matter anyway. Eventually he released he emancipation proclamation and was vilified for using it for political advantage. In fact, it proved to be the rallying cry for the US and it worked.

Thus slavery was ended and we won the war, ensuring that it ended everywhere here.

6. It's funny --
in a nice way -- how a short and simple message can carry such weight.

Your OP brought a smile to my wrinkled, old face.
