Pelosi: Dems will stay strong on Boehner vote
<snip>

"House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) says Democrats remain staunchly opposed to Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) debt-limit bill as Republican leaders struggle to find enough GOP votes to pass it through the House.

Pelosi returned to her Capitol office shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday, more than three hours after lawmakers were scheduled to vote on Boehner’s bill.

Asked if Democrats were holding firm against the bill, Pelosi replied: “Yes. That I do know.”

She and other party leaders declared earlier in the day that no Democrats would support the GOP legislation, forcing Republican leaders to cobble together a majority from within their own reluctant ranks.

Democrats are hoping the bill’s failure will force Boehner back to the bargaining table to force a compromise with Democratic leaders and the White House before potentially calamitous default on Aug. 2.

“At some point that is going to have to happen because this is not a bill that is going to pass the Senate or that the president is going to sign,” Pelosi told The Hill."
