3. My Policy Enemies...
...are those conservatives who are willing to Slash Government Spending
and "trim" "Entitlements" during a Recession and Jobs Crisis.

Who will STAND and FIGHT for THIS American Majority?
I will!

6. This is what we need.
We're now locked into a "supply-side" economics death spiral.

Somebody needs to pull the stick up and restart the engines.

I'd LOVE for it to be President Obama, but he's going to compromise his way out of being a GREAT President and history does not look fondly on Presidents who decide to let others lead us back into an economic mess.

7. All by design. If you were a fake Third Way "Democrat" wanting to legislate from the Right,
you'd need "bi-partisan" cover to get it done. All by design.

14. Sad politics keeps marching rightward
The days of FDR, Eisenhower, Nixon and LBJ are gone. Nixon was supposedly to the left of Obama on many issues. I don't claim to know enough to know for sure.

To be fair Obama has done alot. The affordable care act, stimulus, raising CAFE standards to over 50mpg, 2 decent SC justices, a drawdown in Iraq, killing Bin Laden (something that Bush didn't care about enough to pursue),

But it sucks that the plutocracy is so entrenched both financially and philosophically.

He isn't a bad president, but being willing to cut medicare and SS in this budget debate, while he passed supply side tax cuts in 2010 was a shame. Yeah, if he had a dem congress he wouldn't need to do any of that. But still, nobody who voted in 2010 wants the safety net cut. Even tea partiers are wholly opposed to cuts to health care and SS. They are the most pro-cut group and only 28% want cuts to medicare and medicaid. SS cuts are probably comparable.

The author talks about the several presidents in the context of politics reflecting American culture.

Barack Obama: The Democrats’ Richard Nixon? By BRUCE BARTLETT
http://www.thefiscaltimes.com/Columns/2011/07/22/Barack-Obama-The-Democrats-Richard-Nixon.aspx#page1

Remembering that he took office during two wars and a financial meltdown and the fact that Bushco dragged us very far right, I think he may be more like the Democrats' Eisenhower.....

"Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt was a transformative president, partly because of his policies but mainly because he presided over the two most disruptive events of the 20th century: the Great Depression and World War II.

By the time Dwight Eisenhower took office, people craved stability and he was determined to give it to them. This angered his fellow Republicans, who wanted nothing more than to repeal Roosevelt’s New Deal, root and branch. And with control of both the House and Senate in 1953 and 1954, he could have undone a lot of it if he wanted to."

edited to add...
"Eisenhower’s effective liberalism was deeply frustrating to conservatives. Robert Welch of the John Birch Society even accused him of being a communist. But after Republicans lost control of Congress in 1954, he was the only game in town for them."

by those same bankers, and other members of the "privileged" society.

22. The 1930s did not have bloggers and 24/7 media
People weren't following everything he did and every move in Congress.

He had it easy. He was born into the aristocracy and moved up the ladder as so many born into the aristocracy do. In addition, there was a real Depression, so little that he did would be thwarted.

Then how did we get out of that Depression? Getting involved in a war.

25. What fascist coup?
and it was much easier for politicians back then. People had to read the newspapers or listen to the radio and could only find out at least one day later what happened.

They were not panicking at rumors. It was much calmer and easier to handle things.

and do everything but grovel before them. I do not believe whatsoever in the supernatural, but I'd sure like to see the shade of FDR give Obama a serious talking-to.
