1. That should be "has begotten."
Edited on Fri Jul-29-11 02:53 PM by MineralMan
King James' Grammar is slightly different that today's. "Begat" is the simple past tense of "To beget." "Begotten" is the participial form.

Not a criticism, just a brief lesson in 17th Century English.

7. Beget, begat, begotten
Forget, forgot, forgotten.

Different words, different tenses. Just because they sound alike doesn't mean they're conjugated alike.

Genesis 5 (KJV)
"3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and BEGAT a son in his own likeness, and after his image; and called his name Seth:
4 And the days of Adam after he had BEGOTTEN Seth were eight hundred years: and he BEGAT sons and daughters:
6 And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and BEGAT Enos:
7 And Seth lived after he BEGAT Enos eight hundred and seven years, and BEGAT sons and daughters:
9 And Enos lived ninety years, and BEGAT Cainan:
10 And Enos lived after he BEGAT Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and BEGAT sons and daughters:
12 And Cainan lived seventy years and BEGAT Mahalaleel: "

9. Well, right wingers are pretty much bigots by definition, for sure.
Edited on Fri Jul-29-11 03:05 PM by MineralMan
If that's what you mean. If you meant "begot," not really.

ETA: On further research, "begot" is also a valid past tense, but came into use later. Similarly "begot" and "begotten" are both OK as participial forms, too. I guess I'm stuck in KJV usage. But "has begat" is just incorrect all around.

19. Those Old Testament guys were just begettin' fools, they were!
Of course, this was before American Idol, so I guess there wasn't much to do at night other than begettin' your brains out or going out with the boys for a drive-by smiting.

21. Like Ben Franklin saying that beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy! I get it!
Alas, the spirit is willing but the flesh is starting to head south. So much for my shot at making it much past 120.
