i don't know much about it, but found a website that sounded interesting ...
http://livesafely.org/financial-freedom/get-rid-of-student-debt-once-and-for-all/Some things that caught my attention:
- Federal student loan consolidation (available under certain conditions from Dept. of Education). Something called “Income Contingent Repayment (ICR) Plan“
- "Under US law, as a person with student debt, you are entitled to the “income contingent” option under the law, but neither the government or private banks do not make this public knowledge. "
- Since spring 2011, "Government is offering information on its Student Loans Disability Discharge program. Their website, StudentLoans.gov, now includes a link, “Loan Discharge“, describing how to go about obtaining a Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) Discharge for borrowers and their doctors. "
Like i said earlier, i don't know much about student debt, but i do know that it's become a tremendous burden on many people. (I was lucky to escape it.) If you think there's anything useful at that link, please let us know. Or if the advice is wrong, please post about it.
