Free CARE Clinic Tacoma Dome: Just back
Wow, I just got back from volunteering at the all-day CARE Clinic. The organizers from the Association of Free Clinics did a masterful job of organizing the community--there were 1200 volunteers. My feet and knees gave out, so I left at the end of my six-hour shift, as the second shift was arriving. They'll be going until 8 pm. At the end of the second hour, we were on patient number 600, so things were moving along quite smoothly. It was a tremendous experience, and I met some great people. Not too late to go if you need medical attention and don't have insurance.

3. I wonder how many of those volunteers, of any volunteers, are Republicans, conservatives.
I have a good friend of over 30 years who is like a mother to me who retired a few years ago. I mentioned to her how when some people retire that they would do volunteer work, things they could not afford to do in their working career. She told me, no way, that she would never do anything unless she was being paid to do it. That was actually a shocking and incomprehensible statement to me but it does fit in with the Republican YOYO (You're On Your Own) mindset, that any labor has no value unless you are paid money for doing it.

I am sure that there are some Republicans, conservatives that do volunteer (I highly doubt that there are any teabaggers that do), but the whole concept of volunteering is so alien to their philosophy. When they are in need though they sure have their hands out, demanding help.
