I used to think "knowledge is power". I am far less ambitious about it today.

Knowledge is not power. Power is power. Most of the time, those with knowledge are shouting into the wind, while the fools in power make their foolish decisions anyway.

Rather than a means to be powerful, I like to think of the acquisition of knowledge as a path to immunizing oneself to lies. No more, no less. When one gains knowledge, one is less prone to believe all the bullshit that is floating around. That doesn't mean one can change anything though. At least, not as long as there are still sufficiently many people around who would rather beliefe a lie than to acquire knowledge.
