SNL’s Seth Meyers nails Trump and GOP candidates at White House Correspondents’ Dinner
Source: RawReplay

In his remarks at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Seth Meyers was brutal and hilarious as he lambasted the current GOP field, Fox News and others. The comedian reserved special scorn, however, for Donald Trump, whose grim, frozen scowl throughout just adds to the viewing pleasure in this video (from C-SPAN), below.

1. Him going there is admirable in my view.

Even if I disagree with some of his positions.

3. Him going might have been brave/admirable
but his reaction to the ribbing was petty.

He did himself no favors showing up and acting like that. Lucky for him, very few people actually see the correspondents dinner.

4. It showed it hurt him, I agree.
Some would have put a false face on that. and laughed along, he was honest about it, but also did not run from scorn.

Note the discussion is not relevant to if the scorn was deserved, that is a different discussion then how he chose to handle it.

10. Laughing at the scorn would not necessarily have to be phony. nt

13. We are talking within the context of his feelings.
Edited on Sun May-01-11 11:45 AM by RandomThoughts
From his feelings and perspective, laughing it off, would not have been honest.

If you criticize his character by not doing that, you may not understand his ethos shows he should be strong and stern. Others might maneuver positions, but that is not his way, not worse or better.

But for him laughing would not be being honest.

You may be saying that he should, but that seems more of a tactical comment about best results, he seems to be standing on his basic concepts, even if some might have been targeted becuase of wrong battlefield, he has some points that might make more sense.

My point is it sounds like you are saying his idea of what strength or how someone should be is not the best.

I think I understand what you are saying, you think a person should declare defeat and laugh along, I would guess he is continuing on in a larger battle, while knowing he lost that encounter.

However there were indications that much of it is CGI, since there was a contradiction, where Jimmy Fallon show showed a clip of him saying he was not running for president, then repeated on morning news, but said to be a fake clip, then on much of the news other clips showed him on birther charge said true. Who knows, one of them is fake, do you know which one? Him defending birthers, or him saying he was not running?

So it is possible he is being burned for ideas you are not hearing.

Once there was a fake clip of Donald Trump, and it was shown on news, how do you know what other clips are real or CGI.

Do you see the point that the entire conversation may be a distraction, and may have nothing to do with what is going on.

Are they discussing or correcting the fact that I am due beer and travel money, and many experiences?

17. Honest laughter is not defeat. It is victory. And as to whether it's all some kind of
distraction, that depends upon each individual's diligence for the truth. Even lies and mistakes can be instructive if you recognize what they are and apply what you learn.

Don't know about the beer and travel money. I don't have any either. And, though I do agree that the group DOES owe me something for the value I have added through my good-faith participation for lo these past 48 years ((I started working when I was 14 years old)), I'd settle for the basic terms of human respect manifested in a job that pays something near what I'm worth to an economic enterprise; more respect for how I wish my taxes to be spent (Stop the Killing!!!); and at least basic real Health Care.

19. Many people are due beer and travel money, hence the problem of consolidations.
Although a worker can also say more respect for how the wealth skimmed from his work is spent also.

Profit in business is the same as a tax, just using a different governance system.

20. Agree strongly! Regarding profit: If someone is BORN with $100 million, isn't that
a tax on everyone else with no "contract" for how the (tax)money is to be spent, i.e. a blank check, since it is given to someone BEFORE they are born, NOT AFTER some indication of what "we" are investing in?

22. His actions for the last several months have proven to me his character is poor
I understand your position.

Here is mine - He is clearly an intelligent man. There is no way in hell he believes the Birther claims. He made a calculated decision to appeal to the republican fringe who vote in primaries by telling the lie that Obama is not a US Citizen.

What was his first reaction once the Birth Certificate was released?

To tell ANOTHER LIE at a press conference.

- He immediately claimed that the Clintons had demanded Obama's Birth Certificate in 2008. THAT IS A BLATANT LIE.

- He then attacked Obama's academic record, using the liars phrase "I read it somewhere."

23. Trump is the RepubliDink responsible for witholding your beer and travel money
Edited on Sun May-01-11 12:46 PM by SpiralHawk
Nothing funny about that.

Don Gallt (aka The Donald) (R) proved himself to be a thin-skinned Dink Dick last night. If he can't stand the heat, or take a joke, he should just STFU and finally approve your beer and travel money.

The longer you are made to suffer, the more warped your Stockholm Syndrome perspective on Don Gallt (R) will become, it is prophesied by some. They say.

11. He went there fully convinced NO ONE would dare "touch" him
He went there fully convinced he would be lauded and all but given the Faux news "worship" treatment. Prior to the event, he had even been asked if he thought Pres. Obama would target him in his monologue and he emphatically said no.

Admirable? More like arrogant enough to think he would preside over an event that featured the POTUS.

25. A rude awakening for the Trump camp. My guess is they
had no idea prior to this past week how reviled Trump is by much of America. I feel sorry for Trump's kids. They are now going to be hated by people for no reason except their name. I seriously doubt that Trump and entourage knew how much of a joke Trump is - and how difficult public appearances will be.

5. He'll be out for revenge with some fresh new allegations about Obama
And he'll be trumpeting them all over the networks and cable morning shows.

And the show hosts will treat his bullshit like pearls from heaven and fawn all over him.

And eventually Obama himself will have to put a stop to it. Like last time.

Because the media sure as shit ain't gonna do it.

That was pretty good. Quite a few good zingers, and did a good job of ribbing while remaining respectful/good-natured. Obama took the ribbing very well, so gregarious.

I thought Trump was OK. He's not the type to erupt in a big belly-laugh anyway. He was humorless but not any more so than always.

Honestly, if I were in such a position I couldn't have resisted the temptation to tell some seriously offensive jokes. Jokes about O signing off on drone bombings, the "precision" of the drone bombings, Scott Walker frothing at the mouth to crush unions, the Manning thing, the way we generally could give two shits about the poor. . . When I'm around the uber-wealthy and I know them to be generally supportive of neolib economic policy I try to genuinely hurt their feelings. Because who else will? They wall themselves off from the poor and no one in their day-to-day life will speak of the poor to them. His "stop using my tax money to take care of me" line was close to where I'd have gone.
