the dregs of society that rose up from the ooze in 2016 to vote for him. New voter registrations set records in many states - especially red ones. These people had previously abandoned politics, didnt trust either party, and hated gubmint of any kind. But they loved him, so they came down from the hills and up from the swamps to cast a vote - many for the first time in their lives.
When he dies, a good percentage of these cretins will crawl back under their rocks. If there is a demented personality that can step into and fill his shoes (and I cant think of anyone that could), some may stick around to worship the new god. But since a good number will slink away, I think that new gods hold over the entire party would be much weaker.
The rest will fall in with traditional repub politics and well have to deal with them for a few more decades. He swelled their ranks with a lot of new meat. That might be the greatest damage he has done to progressive governance.
So - the short answer to you question is nothing short of his death. I dont see any other way it falls apart.
