19. NM schools are paid for by big oil

Maybe Texas will do the same. Both states are pulling in billions from the relaxing of oil & gas regulations. Both states are getting more polluted too .

Texas is #1 and NM is #2 in oil production in US. Forbes - “ In Texas in 2022, the oil and natural gas industry paid almost $25 billion in state and local taxes and state royalties, by far the largest ever - the previous high was $16 billion”

After NM paid all its bills last yr it still had a billion to invest for the future. What I don’t get is why is most of the oil produced by these 2 states getting exported according to Forbes.
