(50 posts)Work dogs all the way! McNabs never stop working. Unbelievably intelligent as long as you do what they want you to do. Quiet workers whether heading or trailing. Always looking to account for that last stray lamb (or calf or, in my case, small grandchild) to the faux Alpha. The Malamute is an incredible animal when it comes to pulling a freight sled. Won all the contests our local animal feed store used to put on.
Owned two Goldens over the years. Loved them to pieces. Great family dogs, but so needy for reassurance petting.
Once, way back in the 1960's, coming from classes, someone let his/her dog out on the front porch of a shabby student rental during the middle of a rare Midwest nor-easter snow storm in Madison. Came eyeball to eyeball with this massive Alaskan. (I was dog phobic back then having been bitten by a chained German Shepherd as a small child.) The untethered Alaskan could not have cared less about me. Put its nose straight into the fierce snowy wind turning its head slowly from one direction to another to get a whiff of "what's going on out here." Lot's of animal character there. No yapping or meaningless barking about territory.
