Contract ended for Austin-based YouTube team amid union efforts, city labor support
Source: Austin Impact
As Austin leaders were considering formal support for labor efforts between a local YouTube Music support team and their employers, Google and Cognizant Technology Solutions, the workers learned their contract had been ended during a Feb. 29 City Council meeting.
The move followed more than a year of unionization efforts by the Austin-based YouTube Music Content Operations Team, which is subcontracted by Cognizant under Google.
Council member Zo Qadri, who authored a resolution in support of the workers, criticized the update Feb. 29. Shame on Google for firing workers that work really hard, that were underpaid, that were treated badly, that acted in good faith and then were let go this morning," he said.
The National Labor Relations Board in January found Cognizant and Google had already engaged in unfair and illegal labor practices by refusing to bargain with the content team and ordered the employers to meet their workers at the negotiating table. Google contests the finding.

Union Busting!
They organized, the NLRB election was won, and then Google refuses to negotiate, and ends their employment. Google sucks.

The Senate passed a bill on Thursday to extend the expiration date for federal funding later into March, delaying a partial government shutdown that was set to begin March 2. The continuing resolution will fund roughly 20 percent of government departments until March 8 and the rest through March 22.
The House passed the legislation on Thursday afternoon by a vote of 320-99. The measure required the support of two-thirds of the chamber.
The legislation pushes the funding deadline to March 8 for several agencies, including the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Transportation, Energy, Agriculture, Interior, and Housing and Urban Development, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency. Financing for most of those agencies was set to expire Saturday just after midnight.

Associates of ex-Michigan House speaker charged with embezzlement; case against Chatfield still open
By Jordyn Hermani | jhermani@mlive.com
LANSING, MI Associates of ex-House Speaker Lee Chatfield, the husband and wife duo of Anné and Rob Minard, are collectively facing more than a dozen felony charges for their alleged roles in misappropriating funds tied to the former lawmaker, Attorney General Dana Nessel announced Thursday.
These are concrete abuses in black and white so much so that, in some instances, its obvious that they were counting on the fact that no one would ever review it without probable cause, she said, in announcing the charges Dec. 21.
Anné Minard previously served as a political consultant to Chatfield, while Rob Minard formerly served as Chatfields chief of staff. The felony charges announced Thursday are tied to their misappropriation of funds from of various 501(c)4 social welfare organizations, multiple state campaign committees, independent Political Action Committees and a lobbying firm, which Nessel says they financially exploited or defrauded.
Together, Nessel said, the pair wrongfully embezzled, misappropriated or wrongfully obtained a sum of at least $525,000 just from the years 2018 to 2020 while also continuing to work both for Chatfield and at the firm they owned, Victor Strategies. Between all the different sources of income, the duo legally made $1.5 million during that time while taking in the more than $500,000 sum illegally, Nessel alleged.
Both Minards have been charged with one count of conducting a criminal enterprise, a 20-year felony; one count of conspiracy to conduct a criminal enterprise, a 20-year felony; three counts of false pretenses for $1,000 or more but not greater than $20,000, each five year felonies; one count of false pretenses for monetary amounts between $20,000 and $50,000, a 15-year felony; one county of embezzlement for $100,000 or more, a 20-year felony, and; one count of filing a false tax return, which is a five year felony.

Michigan DEM House -no more. Now it's TIED.
Michigan House will no longer be controlled by Dems, as TWO sitting state reps won their Mayoral races yesterday.
State Rep Lori Stone won her election Warren yesterday. Stone, 43, won Tuesday's general election with 11,876 votes, inching past city Human Resources Director George Dimas, who garnered 10,488 votes, according to unofficial results posted on the city's website.
Stone's win will shake up the state legislature, too. Stone was one of two Democratic state representatives vying for a mayoral seat in their respective cities. The other was in Westland, where Rep. Kevin Coleman won the mayor's seat there, according to unofficial results in Tuesday's election.
That will leave the Democratic-majority House temporarily split with 54 Democrats and 54 Republicans once they are sworn into their new roles.

Putin withdraws Russia's ratification of global nuclear test ban treaty
Source: Reuters
Nov 2 (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin on Thursday signed a law withdrawing Russia's ratification of the global treaty banning nuclear weapons tests, a step condemned by the organisation which promotes adherence to the landmark arms control pact.
The move, though expected, is evidence of the deep chill between the United States and Russia, whose ties are at their lowest level since the 1962 Cuban missile crisis over the war in Ukraine and what Moscow casts as Washington's attempts to stymie the emergence of a new multipolar world order.
Moscow says its deratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) is merely designed to bring Russia into line with the United States, which signed but never ratified the treaty. Russia will not resume nuclear testing unless Washington does, say Russian diplomats.
Nor, they say, will the move change the nuclear posture of Russia, which has the world's largest nuclear arsenal, or the way it shares information about its nuclear activities as Moscow will remain a treaty signatory.

The war between Israel and Hamas has torn through American politics, disturbed communities across the country and unsettled political coalitions in both parties. Over the past two weeks, Muslim American voters and leaders have been increasingly outspoken about their fears of violent backlash and political exclusion in this wrenching crisis.
Among many Muslim American Democrats, there has been a sense of frustration about the Biden administrations handling of the conflict. On Thursday, President Joe Biden made his most explicit appeal to Muslim Americans in his speech from the Oval Office, denouncing Islamophobia and deploring the murder of a 6-year-old Illinois boy, Wadea Al-Fayoume, by a man allegedly motivated by anti-Muslim paranoia.
