this district is a crazy gerrymander outside st louis. a pencil-like thing. repped for 5 terms by the totally useless rodney davis. du’er laurasand lives in this district, and had a cardboard cut out she carried around called ‘flat rodney’

while i walk for my sister, who we lost to this curse, i walk w my dear friend, roberta miles. how she manages to be so amazing despite her ms is a deep, deep mystery to me.
she is an amazing jazz singer, story teller, artist, teacher, grandmother and friend, she is the producer of several long running ensemble shows.
my personal favorite is loose chicks. 5 minute stories from amazing women. i was honored to tell a story on stage for the first time with the chicks in oct 22. there is also beast women. a variety show, featuring anything women do. music, comedy, performance poetry, sword swallowing. you never know.
there is also cabaret cabaret, a burlesque show. and shows and sales of her paintings. and art lessons for kids and adults.
and above all, an amazing annual gala for ms, a gathering of outrageous souls.

also, she has great taste in husbands. her hubby is my voice teacher.

well, in part with help from me. i am there for her when she needs me, and i am honored to walk by her side.

but i am going to outraise her.

so, i got into a discussion on xitter about nepo babies the other day, pointing out that talent is largely inherited. the back and forth was that most of our behavior is genetic. i believe, in fact, all of it is. yes, events, esp in childhood can shape a person, but how it does so is determined.
yes, a severe trauma can bend a person, esp a child.
yes, the level of stress in a family can impact development. esp in the pregnant mother. adequate nutrition and support bring out the best. high stress, whether food or illness, the mother’s or someone else in the family, have a sometimes profound impact.
but all this is a narrow window. how much and in which direction is fixed.

which brings us to me. lol. i entertained myself during the plague by tracing my family tree. all i knew was that 2 of my grands came during the hunger. in steerage. i thought i came from peasants. boy was i surprised. turns out my mom came from 1 of ireland’s great families. my tree is full of witches and queens. and rebels.
talk about ah ha moments. all my life, anything i did for work, i was quickly promoted. every org i ever joined, i was put in charge of something. ppl i barely knew begged me to serve w them. i could never say no. i always thought it was cuz i was an easy mark to take on the scut work, and get it done. but no. it’s who i am.
all my life i’ve served. for issues, for candidates, for causes, for people. and i’ve won. of all the campaigns i’ve been involved w, we only lost 1 we shd have won. tammy duckworth beat us in a primary by 100 sketchy votes, then got shellacked in the general. we probably wd have won, as it was our 2nd time around. a couple we knew we wd lose, and didnt embarrass ourselves. i have a convention placard stolen from denver, w a little brass plaque.
i tell the truth when the smart thing is to keep my damn mouth shut.

anyone who comes from a long line of anything will b what their people are. they will be the royal family- inbred degenerates. or they will be the kennedys- heroes.
